🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1959, the Boston Air Defense Sector recorded a series of 18 radar targets that appeared suddenly. The objects were moving at speeds between 200 and 400 knots, at altitudes ranging from 7,000 to 36,000 feet. Some of them approached the coast, turned around, and headed out to sea, while others faded without a trace. Despite scrambling fighter jets, none managed to intercept them. Most officials concluded these were false targets, likely caused by radar anomalies.
The subsequent investigation found no physical evidence or photos supporting the real existence of the objects. Explanations like balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena were ruled out. However, technical analyses suggested that radar transmission peculiarities might have generated false contacts. Although ducting was officially dismissed, experts acknowledged that some unexplained radar returns are common. The case remains an unsolved mystery.
