🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1959, a photographer captured an image during an air show at O'Hare Air Force Base in Chicago. A streak appeared in the photograph that was not visible to the naked eye. The individual submitted the photo to military authorities, suggesting it was not a typical film developing issue. However, after several analyses, technicians determined the streak was due to a processing defect. Despite multiple communications between the civilian and the Air Force, the negative was not officially received until months later, delaying the final evaluation.
The Air Force responded several times to the citizen, reiterating that the streak was not a real object but a technical flaw. The informant insisted the streak did not extend to the edges of the film, making it suspicious. Finally, after receiving the negative, experts concluded there was no evidence of an unidentified object, but rather a developing error. The case was closed without further investigation, but it reflects how even seemingly serious reports can be resolved with technical explanations.
