🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1959, a group of astronomers and officers in Rio de Janeiro observed an object with a disk-like shape featuring green lights arranged in a Maltese cross pattern. The object, which emitted an orange jet, was seen through a telescope and with the naked eye, and was estimated to be over 20 kilometers away. Witnesses stated it was not a celestial body or natural phenomenon, and noted the object showed no rotational movement. The sighting caused significant attention, being the first time an observatory recorded a UFO.
The report includes testimonies from several observers, including soldiers and civilians, who agreed on the object's characteristics. Despite the 30-minute observation, no photographs were taken due to the object's speed. Brazilian astronomers prepared a detailed report for the Air Force, though authorities did not reach a definitive conclusion about the nature of the phenomenon.
