🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1959, two U.S. pilots in Japan spotted strange objects at sea. They observed seven vessels laying smoke, moving at high speed. One observer thought they might be submarines. Later, when returning to the area, the vessels were gone, but they saw large orange objects under the water, evenly spaced and aligned.
Further investigation revealed the objects were dye markers used with sonar devices deployed by a P5M aircraft. The initial confusion was resolved when it was confirmed the objects were not UFOs, but training markers for naval exercises. Although no foreign incident occurred, the pilots' alertness was praised for contributing to awareness in the region.
