UFO, Lights in the Washington Sky 1959

Summary

In July and August 1959, multiple sightings of lights in the night sky were reported in Yakima, Bremerton, and Bellingham (Washington). Witnesses described red, green, white, and yellow lights, some in circular formations. The sightings lasted for several hours and generated significant interest, even among police officers who confirmed they had seen the lights. Some even considered building shelters for protection.

The U.S. Air Force investigated and concluded the lights were from SAC refueling aircraft conducting night training. Despite this, there were discrepancies between air bases regarding the exact nature of the objects. While one base stated it was routine operations, another did not confirm it. Ultimately, it was determined the lights were flares and known aircraft, closing the case without further investigation.
