🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In 1959, a pilot reported a bright object over the North Pacific, northeast of Hawaii. The sighting happened at 04:53 on August 15, when a pilot observed a very bright white light moving from north to south. The light was larger than a planet and turned red as it slowly sank into the sun's rays. Although the object was constantly in view, the duration of the sighting was unknown. The pilot was flying at 17,000 feet, at the coordinates 37°N 142°45'W. There was an unconfirmed report that a Northwest Airlines aircraft also saw the light, but no further information or flight numbers were available. Investigators concluded there was insufficient data to evaluate the phenomenon, so no definitive conclusion was reached.
