UFO sighted in New Milford, New Jersey in 1959

Summary

In August 1959, an 18-year-old in New Milford, New Jersey, reported seeing a bright object in the sky moving erratically. He described it as a yellowish-white point with a red rim, about the size of a silver dollar. The sighting lasted five minutes, with the object traveling diagonally from southeast to northeast before fading out at a higher altitude. Initially unexplained, the object's movement and wind data led investigators to consider it possibly a weather balloon.

The Air Force reviewed balloon launches in the area but found none on that exact date. However, given the weather conditions and wind direction, it was speculated that a balloon from another location might have been responsible. The witness provided a drawing of the area and mentioned others saw it too.
