🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1959, a Marine Corps officer at Camp Pendleton, California, reported a bright object in the sky. The case was classified as an astronomical meteor, but the unusual speed and description of the object sparked some curiosity. The officer, Major James G. Cashman, noted that the object appeared suddenly, moved straight, and disappeared into a cloud within a few seconds. A detailed description of the event, along with precise location and time data, was recorded by the U.S. Air Force.
The observation did not include photographs or radar, but accurate data on direction, elevation, and duration were documented. Although investigators concluded it was a meteor, the object's speed—estimated to be twice that of a jet aircraft—and its unexpected behavior raised questions. The official report does not mention other explanations, but the officer's testimony and weather conditions suggest it could have been an unusual phenomenon, though not necessarily extraterrestrial.
