🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A pear-shaped object, between the size of a dime and an orange, was observed for nearly nine and a half hours at Bunker Hill Air Force Base in Indiana. It appeared around 1500Z and was seen by both civilian and military personnel, including pilots who attempted to intercept it. The object displayed colors ranging from white, cream, and metallic, and had something trailing beneath it. Although considered a high-altitude balloon, no confirmation was found. A T-33 climbed to 37,000 feet to investigate, but the object remained above. The lack of physical evidence or official confirmation led to its classification as "unidentified."
Local police received numerous calls, and most witnesses agreed on the description. An inexperienced pilot, upon seeing the object, made a sharp turn and returned to the airport. Initially thinking it was an aircraft, he later considered it could be a balloon. Several weather stations were contacted without success. The investigation concluded that, while the object had balloon-like characteristics, it could not be identified with certainty. The official report classifies it as unidentified, though it suggests it could have been a research balloon.
