🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1959, an unusual object was observed in the sky over Naha, Okinawa, initially reported as an unidentified phenomenon. A red object with a flaming tail appeared, drawing the attention of both ground and airborne observers. The object was seen for approximately 10 seconds, and its behavior resembled that of a bolide, a type of meteor that burns brightly as it enters Earth's atmosphere. Despite multiple witnesses, including pilots and tower operators, there was no attempt to intercept the object and no physical evidence was recovered.
The official conclusion, after a detailed evaluation, was that the object was not a balloon or aircraft, but a meteor. Weather conditions, including lightning storms in the area, and the description of the object as a fireball that disintegrated upon entering the atmosphere, supported this interpretation. Although the report was classified as a UFO case, the available data and the observers' experience led officials to rule out non-natural explanations. This case is an example of how astronomical phenomena can be misinterpreted as unidentified objects.
