UFO sighted in the Atlantic near Virginia

Summary

A U.S. Navy officer reported a tear-shaped object with a bluish white light moving westward over the Atlantic Ocean, 380 miles east of Langley AFB. The sighting lasted about 10 seconds, with the object leaving a vapor trail. Although initially considered a balloon or aircraft, investigators concluded it was likely an astronomical meteor. The witness, from the flying bridge of a picket ship, described the object as burning out, consistent with a high-altitude meteor.
