Summary

In November or December 1959, a couple in Clarkston, Michigan, reported seeing a white, egg-shaped object the size of a grapefruit, four times brighter than any star, leaving a light trail behind. The object was observed for at least one hour. Although initially considered a UFO, investigators concluded it was likely a weather balloon. The report was submitted six to seven months after the sighting and contained limited information, making analysis difficult.

Selfridge Air Force Base reviewed the weather data and balloon launches in the area. During the reported time, a weather balloon launched in Flint did not burst as usual but ascended to a high altitude and developed a slow leak. This, along with the location and duration of the sighting, supports the balloon theory. Although the original photo was not retained, the report concluded no evidence of unidentified activity. The case was closed without further investigation.
