In November 1959, a civilian observer in the Pacific near the Hawaiian Islands reported a bright object making a low arc before appearing to strike the water. The sighting, documented in an official report, noted that the object emitted at least three flashes and was seen by three reliable witnesses. Although initially considered as a balloon, aircraft, or unknown object, investigators concluded it was likely a meteor. The most plausible explanation is that the object did not actually hit the water but passed below the horizon, creating the illusion of an impact. This case highlights how natural phenomena like meteors are often mistaken for unidentified objects.
