Summary

In November 1959, a tear-drop shaped object was sighted near Manteo, North Carolina. The USS Skywatcher, a picket ship, reported the phenomenon at night, describing a greenish light with a smoky trail. The object remained visible for one to one and a half hours before fading out with an added brightness. Although its duration was unusual for a meteor, observers considered it a possible candidate for this natural phenomenon.

The ship's crew included trained observers, and there was no aerial or radar activity that could explain the object. The Air Force concluded it was likely a meteor, though other possibilities were not ruled out. The report found no correlation with other known events and was filed without a definitive explanation.
