🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A red-orange object was observed in Tillamook, Oregon, on January 1, 1960. The witness described it as round, about the size of a car's tail light, and initially mistaken it for a star. The object remained stationary for 30 seconds, then began circling in widening spirals before suddenly ascending at an angle of 60-80 degrees and fading into the distance. The observation lasted 5 minutes. Investigators concluded there was insufficient data to determine if it was astronomical, a balloon, an aircraft, or something else.
The lack of photographs and precise details like the size of the spirals or the speed of movement made classification difficult. It was considered possibly an atmospheric refraction, but no celestial body was identified in the area. Despite the New Year celebration, no evidence of flares or rockets was found. The final report deemed the case insufficient for a definitive evaluation.
