Summary

In August 1991, the Soviet newspaper PRAVDA, known for its communist propaganda, faced a crisis that led to its temporary disappearance. However, journalists decided not to let the newspaper die. After its suspension ordered by President Yeltsin, editors and contributors joined forces to restart publication under new principles. The new PRAVDA not only freed itself from the influence of the Communist Party but also committed to defending human rights and promoting a centrist stance in civil society. In its 31 August edition, the newspaper announced its transformation, highlighting its independence and focus on diverse topics, from politics to phenomena like "flying saucers".

The revamped PRAVDA showed a more dynamic and modern approach. It included photographs, cartoons, and international reports, moving away from the monotonous style of the past. It also opened up to public participation, inviting readers to submit news and opinions. Despite financial difficulties, journalists committed to maintaining the dignity and independence of the newspaper. This edition marked the rebirth of PRAVDA as an independent media outlet, committed to democratic values and the defense of individual freedoms.
