🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1960, a bright green flaming object was sighted by hundreds of people across three U.S. states: Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Witnesses included both civilians and military personnel, and the event was significant enough to trigger unusual coordination between several air bases and the Strategic Air Command (SAC). Despite the widespread sightings, the information was partially garbled and difficult to process. A taped recording collected the reports, but it was filled with static and did not provide clear details. Officials at the time concluded it was likely a meteor, though balloon or aircraft explanations were not ruled out.
Confusion reigned during the transmission of data, with multiple officers involved and a complicated coordination process. Despite efforts to obtain more precise details such as direction or speed, no definitive description was achieved. The incident was taken seriously, but in the end, it was considered that there was insufficient data for a conclusive evaluation. Nevertheless, the case was documented, and a formal written report was requested, though no clear resolution was reached.
