Summary

In February 1960, three aircraft reported an unidentified object over Japan. The phenomenon was observed for an instant and estimated to be at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,100 meters. Although a Japanese pilot thought it might be a missile, officials evaluated it as likely a meteor. The lack of photographs and additional data limited the investigation, but reports agreed that no formal action was needed.

The classified report, though brief, shows how sightings were handled at the time. The possibility of a balloon or aircraft was dismissed, and an astronomical explanation was accepted. Despite the brief observation, the fact that three aircraft reported it simultaneously generated some interest. In the end, it was concluded that there was no evidence to consider it an abnormal phenomenon.
