Summary

A civilian in Tucson, Arizona, observed a bright object in the sky on February 24, 1960. The witness described it as an oblong object the size of a half-dollar at arm's length, performing irregular maneuvers for about 8 to 10 minutes. The sighting occurred toward the west, with the sun setting and scattered clouds in the sky. The object was silent and as bright as a car headlight from a block away. Despite the detailed description and unusual movements, authorities concluded it was likely an atmospheric reflection or the reentry of the U.S. satellite Discoverer VIII. The witness insisted it was a physical object, not an optical illusion, due to its spherical shape and the way it split into sections before rejoining.

The report includes sketches by the witness showing a bright band and two detached sections. Initially thought to be a rocket or aircraft, the final explanation pointed to natural or satellite phenomena. The case was logged under Project 10073, and the witness and his wife were asked to complete additional questionnaires for further evaluation. Despite investigations, no definitive confirmation of the object's nature was reached.
