🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A round object resembling a star, with silver or reflected light, was observed in Cornwall, Vermont, on February 27, 1960. It had a reddish tail fading to pale yellow and moved eastward. Civilian and military witnesses saw it for one and a half minutes. The area had a temperature inversion, suggesting the sighting might have been distorted by atmospheric refraction. Balloons, astronomical phenomena, and natural occurrences were ruled out. The most likely conclusion is that it was a jet fighter with afterburner engaged, seen from a distance and affected by the inversion layer.
