🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
An oblong to spherical object, silver and cherry-red with a long tail, was observed over the eastern United States on March 7, 1960. Civilian and military witnesses reported seeing it break up over Florida. The description matched the reentry of Discoverer VIII, a NASA satellite. Despite multiple sightings, some questioned if it was a natural phenomenon. An official report from the Air Force Missile Test Center identified the object as the satellite, closing the case. However, testimonies from observers, including a crew on a yacht and military pilots, added mystery to the event. The official explanation did not prevent questions about the nature of the phenomenon.
