🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A U.S. Air Force major, Jim G. Ford, reported a reddish object observed with a 48X telescope at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Missouri, on April 17, 1960. The object appeared north of Orion at about 30 degrees elevation, moving southwest, passing 1 degree south of Sirius before disappearing. The sighting lasted 2.5 minutes, with no changes in size, color, or brightness. Although a reentering satellite was considered, it was not confirmed.
The report was sent to the Smithsonian Visual Tracking Center but received no response. The officer and a field representative agreed it was not an aircraft. Despite calculations and observations, the case remained unidentified. The true nature of the phenomenon remains a mystery.
