In May 1960, a witness in Bayonne, New Jersey, observed a luminous object moving from southeast to northwest. The object briefly went dark, showed a reddish glow, and then went dark again. The sighting lasted between 60 and 90 seconds, with an estimated speed of 90 to 110 mph. Although there were two witnesses, only one submitted a report. The description resembled a meteor, but the duration of the event was unusually long.
