Summary

In May 1960, a witness in Bayonne, New Jersey, observed a luminous object moving from southeast to northwest. The object briefly went dark, showed a reddish glow, and then went dark again. The sighting lasted between 60 and 90 seconds, with an estimated speed of 90 to 110 mph. Although there were two witnesses, only one submitted a report. The description resembled a meteor, but the duration of the event was unusually long. Due to the lack of information from one of the witnesses, the evaluation concluded that the data was insufficient for a clear determination.

The report includes details about the exact location of the sighting, near a traffic light on the southeast corner of 33rd Street. The witness described the object as a red disc similar to a traffic light, with a grayish and white glow. The object fell at a height of about 400 yards, and the witness suggested it could have been part of a satellite or a comet, although ruled out a falling star due to the trajectory and behavior of the object. The lack of photographs and the ambiguity of the data led to the conclusion that the nature of the object could not be determined with certainty.
