🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1960, multiple witnesses in El Paso, Texas, reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object. A 17-year-old described a round object with a bright trail, appearing white with traces of blue, yellow, and a reddish tail. The object, seen in the early morning, seemed to move slowly toward the south. According to his account, the object split into two parts near the Rio Grande, with the larger piece continuing its path and the smaller one disintegrating as it fell. Other witnesses, including military and civilian personnel, also reported seeing the phenomenon, with similar descriptions of its shape, size, and trajectory. The lack of sound and its meteor-like appearance caused some confusion, but the consistent reports from multiple observers suggest it was not a conventional object.
The reports collected by military authorities included testimonies from personnel at Biggs Air Force Base and local police. An official from the base described the object as a ball of fire with a reddish and green tail, while another witness compared it to a basketball. Despite the varied descriptions, all agreed that the object made no sound and moved at a low speed. The duration of the sighting ranged from 2 to 15 seconds, depending on the observer. The reports concluded that the object could not be identified as a balloon, aircraft, or known astronomical phenomenon, classifying it as an unresolved UFO case.
