Summary

In June 1960, an observer in South Dakota sighted an elongated object that emitted changing colors. The object appeared 45 degrees above the horizon and remained visible for 30 minutes before disappearing. It was described as two and a half times longer than wide, flashing in red, green, orange, and white. Although it was considered possibly a balloon or an astronomical phenomenon, the lack of precise data such as position and trajectory prevented a clear identification. The report concluded that the data was insufficient for evaluation.

The report was classified as "insufficient for evaluation" due to the lack of key information. Despite binoculars being used to observe the object, no photos or radar data were recorded. The slow disappearance of the object suggested very slow movement, pointing to an astronomical explanation. However, without exact positional data, its nature could not be determined with certainty. The case was filed without a definitive resolution.
