🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1960, a civilian in Wilmington, Massachusetts, reported an unidentified flying object that appeared egg-shaped. The witness described the object as white at first, with a metallic appearance as it turned. According to the report, the UFO was above 50,000 feet in altitude, making it larger than a typical bomber at that height. It left no trail or sound, and its estimated speed was over 1,000 miles per hour. The official report suggested it could have been a weather balloon, though the speed did not align with typical balloon behavior.
The investigating officer, Captain Albert J. Mariconda, interviewed the witness and verified with several air units and control centers that there was no unusual activity in the area. Despite the investigations, no clear explanation was found. The report concluded that the object could not be identified and was classified as an Unidentified Flying Object. The witness's detailed description did not allow for a definitive classification, and the official report highlighted the impossibility of completely ruling out a balloon, despite the unusual speed recorded.
