🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1960, an officer observed a luminous object at Mather AFB, California. The report describes an object that initially appeared to have a fuselage and, when viewed through binoculars, showed a petal-like shape formed by bright rays of light. The object moved rapidly southwest and disappeared behind a house. Although initially mysterious, investigators concluded it was likely sunlight reflecting off an aircraft. The most plausible explanation was that the observer saw sunlight reflected from an aircraft in flight.
The report includes details such as the exact time of the sighting, clear weather conditions, and the absence of radar data. Despite the five-minute duration and the object's speed, analyses ruled out astronomical or natural phenomena. The final conclusion supports the idea that the phenomenon was a reflection of sunlight on a nearby aircraft, consistent with the conditions at the time.
