🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1960, a witness in Independence, Missouri, spotted two luminous objects moving rapidly across the sky. They were described as round and oval, the size of a pea or a dime, with an intense red color. The sighting lasted between 3 and 4 seconds, and the objects traveled southeast before disappearing to the south. Although balloon or aircraft were initially considered, investigators concluded it was likely a meteor. The duration and trajectory matched typical meteor characteristics, especially one breaking up in the atmosphere. The sighting was reported by both civilians and military personnel, and radar checks by local FAA and military installations found no aircraft activity in the area.
