A fisherman reported seeing a red, burning object approximately three feet in diameter fall into Pensacola Bay on July 15, 1960. The object was observed descending directly into the water, followed by an explosion-like sound. Although an attempt was made to recover it, the effort was abandoned due to difficulties in locating the exact spot and a lack of funds. The object was likely a meteorite that did not burn up completely in the atmosphere or a piece of an artificial satellite. The bay in the area is 26 to 30 feet deep with a soft mud bottom, complicating the search. Despite efforts, no trace of the object was found, and the case remains unresolved.
