🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A citizen of West Babylon, New York, reported in 1960 the observation of a bright object in the sky. When viewed through binoculars and a telescope, the object appeared to have a pendulum-like motion and was accompanied by a series of debris. The object would disappear when directly overhead. The sighting occurred over four consecutive nights, which was unusual for a typical balloon. Although initially considered a weather balloon, the detailed description of the movement and debris suggested something more intriguing.
The U.S. Air Force investigated the case and concluded it was likely a weather balloon. However, the detailed observations by the witness and his family, along with the debris, add a mysterious element that is not easily explained. This case, though classified as common, remains an interesting example of how observers try to understand the inexplicable with the tools they have.
