🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1960, a witness in Tacoma, Washington, reported seeing a bright round ball that changed color from yellow to green before disappearing behind some trees. The observation was brief, lasting only a fraction of a second, and there were no photographs or physical evidence. The U.S. Air Force concluded the phenomenon was likely a meteor, as the description matched the typical appearance of a fireball. Additionally, the report noted no balloon or aircraft activity in the area, reinforcing the astronomical explanation.
The case also included testimonies from other observers in St. Louis, Missouri, who saw red lights in a circular formation. Although some used telescopes and binoculars, the object could not be definitively identified. The Air Force assessed that the brief duration and behavior of the phenomenon supported the meteor theory, though atmospheric refraction or optical illusions were not entirely ruled out.
