In July 1960, multiple witnesses in Alexandria, Louisiana, observed a series of bright flashes in the night sky. The objects appeared in the region of the Big Dipper, specifically in the cup portion, leaving trails that lasted between 15 and 20 seconds. Six people, including military and civilians, reported the phenomenon, which occurred from 2:35 AM to 5:00 AM. Observers described bright white flashes with no apparent movement, sparking confusion and speculation.
The U.S. Air Force classified the incident as a meteor, as the descriptions matched meteors entering the atmosphere. Despite the lack of photographic or radar confirmation, the reports detailed coordinates, duration, and exact locations of the events. A weather and wind analysis was requested to rule out temperature inversions, but no conclusive evidence was found. The case was filed without resolution, but it remains a classic example of how natural phenomena can be mistaken for unidentified objects.
