Red-hot bar-shaped UFO seen in Vermont

Summary

A man from Glover, Vermont, reported an unidentified flying object on August 4, 1960. At 5:20 AM, while getting up, he noticed a bright object through his west window. It appeared as a red-hot iron bar without wings, moving rapidly northward. It vanished behind trees after a few seconds. Although the description didn’t match a typical meteor, officials classified it as such due to its short duration and movement.

The witness described the object as having a pointed front, painted in the middle, and flaring into two long prongs at the tail. Despite no photos being taken, the report included sketches and estimates of distance and direction. The witness, a 55-year-old with basic education, saw no one else during the sighting. The Air Force concluded it was a meteor, though the witness speculated it might have fallen in Maine or even the Atlantic Ocean.
