🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1960, the USS Davis reported an unidentified object in the western Mediterranean. The object was observed for three minutes, shining twice as bright as a first magnitude star. Initially seen to the south at an 80° elevation, it then moved steadily eastward, lowering to 40°. This movement ruled out the possibility of it being a star, planet, or meteor. However, no detailed visual description of the object was provided, complicating identification. Due to the location and lack of additional information, an on-site investigation was deemed impractical. Authorities concluded that a definitive evaluation could not be made.
