🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Chicago, Illinois, reported an object that appeared identical to the Echo I satellite. The sighting described how the object appeared in the sky, grew in size, turned orange, and then suddenly disappeared. The observation lasted about two minutes and was made visually from a dark room. Although the possibility of it being Echo I was considered, no confirming data was available for a definitive evaluation.
The report classifies the case as "insufficient for evaluation" due to the lack of additional evidence such as photos or radar. The observer, a 28-year-old civilian pilot, did not use optical aids and the weather was clear. Meteorological conditions recorded variable winds at different altitudes, but there were no storms or notable astronomical activity. The case was reviewed by Major Kalesa, who linked it to Echo I, which was at the time entering Earth's shadow.
