In September 1960, a witness in Washington reported a strange aerial phenomenon: a large white flame accompanied by thunder-like noises. The object was seen for only 2 to 3 seconds, heading east to southeast from Mica Peak. Although initially attention-grabbing due to its intensity, there were no photographs or radar data to support the sighting.

After investigation, military authorities concluded the phenomenon was a meteor. The description of a bright fireball and the brief visibility aligned with typical meteor characteristics.
