🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1960, a 15-year-old in New London, Ohio, observed a bright object moving rapidly across the sky from southwest to northeast. The witness compared it to the size and brightness of the Echo I satellite, but ruled out an airplane or meteor. The object vanished behind trees after about 15 seconds, though the witness admitted this duration might be an overestimation. The lack of photos or secondary witnesses made evaluation difficult.
The U.S. Air Force concluded there was insufficient data to determine the object's nature. The report classified it as a possible meteor sighting, though the witness insisted it wasn't. The youth filled out a detailed questionnaire, including estimates of position and direction, but had no specific training in astronomy or aviation. The case was filed without a clear resolution, highlighting the challenge of evaluating sightings without additional data.
