🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1960, a weather observer and tower operators at Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, sighted a very dim luminous object traveling rapidly toward the southeast. The object was visible for approximately 30 seconds at a high altitude. Although balloon or aircraft possibilities were considered, the data was inconclusive. The report ultimately concluded it was likely a meteor, given the meteor activity reported in the area at that time.
The duration of the sighting was considered longer than typical for a meteor, but the data was estimated and possibly inaccurate by a few seconds. No satellite reentries were recorded on that date, ruling out that possibility. Despite the brief observation and lack of photographs, the report suggests the phenomenon was astronomical in nature. This case highlights the challenges of evaluating unidentified aerial phenomena with limited data available at the time.
