🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1960, a police officer in Janesville, Wisconsin, observed bright objects moving across the sky. He described two pinprick-like lights, similar to stars, traveling north before turning east. The witness noted that one object appeared to trail the other, and one emitted an intermittent flash. The officer estimated the objects to be at a great altitude, around 220 miles, and remained visible for two to three minutes before disappearing over the horizon. Initially thinking it could be a spacecraft, investigators concluded it was likely military aircraft flying at high altitude.
The official investigation indicated that two F89J jets from the local air base were operating in the area around the time of the sighting. These jets were flying at 32,000 feet, an altitude so high that the noise was inaudible from the ground. The witness, who had previously observed the Echo satellite, compared the speed and appearance of the objects to that satellite but noted these moved even faster. Although no additional details were confirmed, the report suggests the officer mistook the jets for unidentified flying objects due to their high altitude and speed. The case was reviewed by Captain Killian Morkin and other officials, who found no evidence of unexplained phenomena.
