Summary

In September 1960, an observer in Okinawa reported seeing an object that looked like a star. The sighting occurred on two occasions, on the 28th and 29th of September, during dusk. The object was the same size and color as stars and moved in a straight line from northwest to southeast. Although it disappeared behind a cloud bank on both days, the description and trajectory pointed to a meteor. However, the prolonged time it remained visible caused some confusion.

The official conclusion indicated that it was probably a meteor, although the report noted that the observation time was unusually long for an astronomical phenomenon. No photos were taken and the available information was limited. Despite this, the data aligned with the characteristics of a meteor, leading to the dismissal of other explanations such as balloons or aircraft.
