🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Portland, Oregon, reported a bright object moving rapidly across the sky. They described the object as the size of a dime held at arm's length. It appeared as a large fire shrinking in size and dropping burning debris. The sighting included a loud explosion followed by a smaller one. The object appeared at about 70 degrees above the horizon and disappeared into the horizon. Although the characteristics matched those of a "bolide," the duration of 2-3 minutes did not fit typical patterns. Due to insufficient evidence, the case was deemed inconclusive.
The official report noted that the object's nature could not be determined with certainty. Several possibilities were considered, including a meteorite, an aircraft, or an astronomical phenomenon, but none were confirmed. The document also mentions that three fragments of 1960 Epsilon reentered the atmosphere between late September and early October, which could be related. However, no direct connection was established with the sighting in question.
