🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September and October 1960, an observer on the ground near Melrose, New Mexico, recorded multiple sightings of a luminous object descending slowly. The object, described as a bright round light that became more orange over time, was observed for 20 to 22 minutes. Although the possibility of it being the planet Mercury was considered, the lack of directional information prevented a definitive conclusion. Investigators concluded it was an astronomical body, but could not identify it precisely.
Weather data and witness comments suggest the object was neither a balloon nor a conventional aircraft. Although a reflective device was mentioned as a possibility, no conclusive evidence was found. The report, classified under Project 10073, was evaluated by military personnel and filed without a definitive resolution. The case remains considered astronomical, but with insufficient data for a precise identification.
