🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1960, a witness in Fayetteville, North Carolina, observed a cigar or banana-shaped object, silver in color and about the size of a half-dollar. The sighting happened near a 60-foot TV tower, where an electrical engineer noticed a flash in the sky. He drew the attention of another observer at the top of the tower, who also saw it. Both witnesses estimated the object was traveling east to west before it disappeared quickly. The sighting lasted between 3 and 5 seconds.
The official conclusion suggested it was likely a reflection of sunlight on a high-flying aircraft. Although no photos were taken, investigators considered the witnesses reliable and the weather clear. No radar data was involved, and the most plausible explanation was a C-123 aircraft flying in the area. Despite the brief nature of the sighting, the case was documented with precise coordinates and directions. The report was reviewed decades later, but no new evidence contradicted the conventional explanation.
