🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1960, an unidentified object was spotted in the Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia, and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, area. Military and civilian witnesses reported a round, light blue object with a teardrop shape and a trail resembling an arc welder's torch. The object made no sound and quickly climbed to an altitude of 45,000 feet. The sighting lasted about 1.5 minutes. Reports coincided with a missile launched from Cape Canaveral around the same time, suggesting it might have been a missile, though the object remained unidentified. Multiple observers, including military personnel, confirmed the description and trajectory.
The official investigation did not reach a definitive conclusion, but the object was considered possibly linked to a test launch. The detailed description of the object's shape, color, and movement, along with multiple credible sources, adds weight to the sighting. Despite theories about balloons, aircraft, or astronomical bodies, the report did not rule out the possibility of an unknown phenomenon.
