🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1960, multiple witnesses in Arkansas observed an object identified as a balloon. A B-47 and an F-102 intercepted it at 37,000 feet, while civilian and military pilots also reported it. The object, appearing orange due to sunset lighting, moved eastward and was seen from the ground and commercial flights. Although initially mysterious, data confirmed it was a common balloon, though its size and brightness caused confusion.
The case illustrates how celestial objects can seem inexplicable without context. Sunlight reflection and distorted perspective contributed to the perception of something unusual. However, confirmation by interceptors and ground observers resolved the mystery, highlighting the importance of technical data in evaluating UFO sightings.
