Summary

In November 1960, a woman in Bothell, Washington, observed a bright white object with crystalline needles around its perimeter. The object moved unpredictably, descending, ascending, and then disappearing. Although initially considered a balloon or astronomical phenomenon like the star Capella, the sighting details suggested it could be a refracted object or optical illusion. The witness, a metallurgical technician, described the event in detail, including the cold weather and absence of snow or ice that might affect visibility. Her report, while detailed, lacked sufficient data for a conclusive evaluation by military authorities.

The object’s needle-like structures were described as recrystallized, leading the witness to compare them to metal structures seen under a microscope. Despite Capella rising in the sky, the object’s position and extreme brightness suggested it was not a conventional astronomical event. The Air Force concluded the data was insufficient for a definitive assessment, though they did not rule out the possibility of an unidentified aerial object. The witness, who had contacted Senator Henry Jackson, insisted the object’s behavior was unusual and requested confidentiality for her testimony.
