🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1960, a pilot from a commercial airline reported a mysterious object between Nandi and Australia. The object was seen at approximately 35 degrees altitude, moving in a northeast to southwest direction. Its brightness was comparable to Venus, causing some confusion at the time. Although its speed could not be determined, the object disappeared at around 15 degrees altitude, suggesting it was hidden behind a cloud layer. Investigators considered the possibility of it being a balloon, an aircraft, or a satellite, but no definitive conclusion was reached.
The official report, evaluated in December 1961, concluded that the data was insufficient for a precise evaluation. The possibility of a meteorite was ruled out, as the object did not exhibit changes in intensity typical of one burning through the atmosphere. Despite being reported as a satellite, it could not be confirmed due to the lack of information about the duration of the sighting and other key details. The case remains open, with the most plausible hypothesis pointing to a satellite or a spacecraft reentry, such as the Discoverer satellite of that era.
