Summary

In January 1961, a witness in Oakland, California, observed a red, flat, circular object the size of a half-dollar. The object appeared at about 20 degrees elevation and moved rapidly toward the horizon in a southwest to northeast direction. It emitted a "rumble" sound and had a flashing red light. The sighting lasted three hours and occurred over three consecutive nights. The witness used a telescope, though it was suggested it might have been out of focus.

The official evaluation did not reach a clear conclusion, considering possibilities such as a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon like Venus. However, Venus wouldn't have moved in the reported direction, raising doubts. A sun reflection or aircraft was also suggested. Authorities requested more information from the witnesses, including details about the type of telescope used and confirmation of the exact time of the sighting. Despite efforts, the case remains unresolved.
