🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1961, a witness in New Mexico reported an unusual object moving in an unexpected way. The observer described a sphere the size of a dime at arm's length, changing from white to a dull red. The object appeared at 45 degrees above the horizon and disappeared at 30 degrees, performing maneuvers that included descending slowly, then moving horizontally and increasing speed. Although other possibilities like balloons or aircraft were considered, investigators concluded it was likely the planet Venus. The observation was brief, lasting between 10 and 20 seconds, and included atmospheric and weather details at the time.
The report included additional questions about how the witness determined the object's movement, which was related to an outdoor movie screen. Three people were present, although only two observed the phenomenon. Differences in descriptions, such as the object's color, were minor and did not affect the main conclusion. The atmosphere and clouds were considered factors that might have influenced the perception of the object's movement. Finally, it was confirmed that Venus was in a position consistent with the testimony, supporting the astronomical explanation.
