🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A U.S. Air Force pilot reported a basketball-sized object that exploded in the sky over Washington in 1961. The event lasted just five seconds and was described as a brilliant white light followed by a colorful explosion. The pilot, flying at 35,000 feet, noted no sound and ruled out satellites or aircraft. Officials concluded it was likely a meteor that exploded before reaching the ground.
